This paper discusses the methodology developed and preliminary results arising from the evaluation of telematics-based demand-responsive transport services (DRTS) in the Fourth Framework SAMPO (System for Advanced Management of Public Transport Operations) project. The concept of DRTS is reviewed briefly. Next, the SAMPO test sites, selected to allow a variety of application environments to be assessed, are described. The test sites include both urban and rural locations, and applications for special users and integrated applications. The remaining sections provide details of the evaluation methodology and present preliminary results from the demonstrators.
