Abstract
The Florida Department of Transportation has released a report that examines the causes of fatal traffic crashes and traffic fatalities so that appropriate actions can be initiated to improve safety on Florida’s highways. According to the report, the number of highway fatalities in Florida was 40% above the 1991 national average on a per vehicle mile basis. The report found that run off the road (32%) and intersection crashes (28%) were the most common crash types, followed by pedestrian (16%) and rear-end/sideswipe (14%) crashes. Almost a quarter of the at-fault drivers were younger than 25, and more than 13% were over age 64. (Author/publisher)
