Abstract

This article evaluates the state-of-the-art technology of the Video Image Processing (VIP) systems. The study investigates the capabilities, accuracy, costs, and limitations of VIP. Comparison is made for competing traffic detector technologies. The potential uses of VIP for Advance Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) are analyzed. This is a fast-developing technology and its continuous evaluation and review are essential for the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) programs and research. (A)
