Abstract

Assessing the impact of urban development schemes on safe travel — a methodological guide. Road network designers and developers often question the impact their development choices have on safe travel. This publication describes a new method of assessing the consequences of a particular development on safe travel. The method is a seven-stage process and has been developed on the basis of research into the subject carried out as part of the PREDIT programme (GO4 Group) on new insights into safety, instigated by the Department of Research and Innovation at the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing. The document has been designed as a practical tool for use by technical staff in the Technical and Scientific Network of the Ministry of Ecology, local authorities and design and engineering firms concerned with development schemes and road safety in urban travel.
