Abstract

Evaluation in transportation planning practice is discussed. At first the political nature of evaluation is emphasized. Attention is given to both the effectiveness and the efficiency of solutions. The problem of assessing the effectiveness of a collective good is considered in some detail. It is suggested that the main goals of transportation planning relate to accessibility and the functioning of the transport space as a spatial element between other spatial elements.
