Abstract

As a consequence of the rise in individual transport the increased demand for parking space has become a significant problem, in particular, in the large cities in Europe. One possibility to alleviate these problems is to inform drivers about the parking situation in their destination area. This paper describes a new approach to model the forecast the occupancy of on-street parking spaces without automatic detection, taking into account current and future events which influence the general demand for parking space. The approach is based on socio-demographic and parking-specific data and, in addition, uses an origin-destination matrix to estimate the parking demand in defined areas. The model is validated by sample field surveys in Munich. For the covering abstract see ITRD E209471.
