Abstract

Event data recorder (EDR) information is increasingly sought and used by law enforcement and automotive insurance companies. However, most vehicle owners and drivers are unaware that EDRs even exist. This paper examines the privacy implications of EDR technology. The statutory approaches to regulating EDRs taken by states such as California are outlined. Finally, model legislation based on Fair Information Practices is presented. (Author/publisher)
