Abstract

This paper discussed the evolution of road transport in New Zealand, the emphasis being on privately-owned as distinct from public road freight and passenger transport. The growth of and factors governing the use of privately-owned freight transport are followed by observations on the social and economic effects of motor transport. The paper concludes with some brief comments on the potential of the motor vehicle.
