Abstract

The report shows how safety activities of a technical nature can fit into a stat's overall highway safety program. Through the process of 1) formal accident problem identification, 2) testing of innovative safety pilot programs, 3) evaluation of operational safety programs and 4) technical activities in support of state/local safety programs, it is possible for a state to move its safety program forward more than would otherwise be the case.
