Abstract

A pilot study is reported to establish the validity of eccentric perceptibility of objects as an index of visual conspicuity. To this purpose it was investigated whether the use of this measure yields similar results as the use of luminance thresholds, which can also be regarded as an index of visual conspicuity. The data show that eccentric perceptibility has good validity, although not all factors that affect brightness thresholds also affect eccentric perceptibility.
