The scope of Anti-Collision Assist (ACA) is wide, covering a wide range of technologies and strategies which strongly influence the possible effects of the newly equipped vehicles. The paper describes the expected impacts of ACA applications from a European point of view. Starting from activities of EC DG XIII AC-Assist (Anti-Collision Assist) project an overview of actual research policies on "telematic" collision avoidance and of architectural design is provided here. Traffic efficiency and traffic safety are considered in this analysis together with a description of tools used to achieve a successful impact evaluation. Preliminary results based on a theoretical system are included. (A)
