Abstract

The test drives in the ADAC Telematics Van have shown that self-sufficient navigation systems have positive effects on traffic safety in principle. Factors enhancing safety assist drivers and save time. Deficiencies that have to be removed concern the areas of user-friendliness, digitalisation of the road network, inclusion of up-to-date traffic information, route guidance and choice of routes. Major obstacles to the success of the systems are presently the excessive price and the lack of system dynamization via current traffic reports.
