Abstract

In The Netherlands an RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel) service has been operational since March 1998. It is available 24 hrs-a-day and provides countrywide national traffic information. It is operated by a service-provider, Nikita, that is fully financed by the Dutch Ministry of Transport. A minimum time-delay is realised by implementing an on-line communication link (DATEX) with the National Traffic Information Centre (TIC). This TIC provides the TMC-system with up-to-date traffic information. The overall quality of the TMC-service is continuously checked via a specially developed quality system.
