Abstract

This paper describes how ITS has evolved and become a part of plans and programmes in the Stockholm metropolitan area. The main reason is to ease the negative impact of traffic and transport that are present today as infrastructure plans are far away in the next 5-8 years. The means are transport telematics, co-operation between cities and other responsible partners for transportation in the metropolitan area. Additional co-operation is with some experienced cities in Europe as part of projects in the IV Framework and as well transfer of technologies and mutual experiences between cities or authorities in a very successful way.
