Abstract

In order to solve the traffic jam problem in the central downtown, it is necessary to give drivers fast and accurate information on parking lots. To save travel time, relieve street congestion and utilize parking space more effectively, the quality of guidance systems about parking availability has been paid more attention recently. In this study, the authors conducted an experiment with guidance systems by using a transceiver to give traffic information, parking availability as well as parking guidance information. The experiment showed that it is most useful to get information on availability of parking lots among the other traffic information using the car radio. The worse traffic jams become, the more important it is to have the option of choosing a route to the destination. The authors show how the time to reach the car park could be shortened, how street congestion could be mitigated, and how parking space could be used more effectively by this system.
