Abstract

This paper describes the results of analyses of eight separate sequences of time headways. Each sequence was measured during a time period of constant flow on a single lane of a multi-lane unidirectional roadway when the traffic was freely flowing. The estimated flow for these sequences varied form 9.9 to 34.5 vehicles per minute. The basic conclusion reached is that the time headways form an ordinary renewal process, i.e., one in which the headways are independently and identically distributed.
