A preliminary quantification of the nature and magnitude of the effect of truck-induced aerodynamic disturbances on passenger cars is presented. The results are expressed in terms of overall car/driver safety performance, with the emphasis on steering control and side to side deviations in the car's path along the roadway. The results are interpreted in terms of possible actions and remedial implications in the areas of roadway design, truck size and configurations, and car/driver dynamics and control characteristics.
