Abstract

Experimental results are presented of propagation characteristics of millimeter wave at 60 GHz band on a road for investigation of inter-vehicle communication system using millimeter-wave band. Received powers and bit error rates (BERs) for data transmission of 1 Mbps was measured between a transmitter on a front vehicle and two receivers on a following vehicle. The validity of two-ray model was confirmed as the propagation characteristics between the vehicles from the comparison between measurement results and calculated results. The feasibility of 1 Mbps data transmission between the running vehicles from experiments on the expressway was also confirmed.
