Abstract

This program is designed to gather information concerning the safety of automobiles and to provide this information to consumers on a regular basis to encourage them to select safer automobiles. The experimental program was designed to study problems concerning active safety and passive safety for five years. Concerning passive safety, full-frontal crash tests proved to be useful from the stand point of repeatability, discrimination, usefulness and internationality in the assessment of crash safety. As the result of this experimental program, the brochure titled Automobile Safety Information was published in Mar. 1996 as a trial. (A)
