One system of Automatic Incident Detection (AID) requires great effort in the experimentation of suitable algorithms able to detect the changes in the normal traffic flow. An intensive experimental phase is necessary to test the algorithm in the highest number of traffic situations in order to measure its effective level of performance. A set of existing aid algorithms have been implemented by the DRIVE II project HERMES and are tested in off-line configuration at the test site in Lyon in collaboration with the DRIVE II project MELYSSA. Details of the test site are provided, as are details of selected automatic incident detection algorithms. (A)
