Abstract

Elements of system architecture and the knowledge acquisition process are described for a prototype advisory system being written to address new construction and retrofit of bridge rails in Texas. Extraction of knowledge is described in detail from interviews with experts to implementation within the code itself. By design, modularity of knowledge bases lends itself to blackboard architecture. Validation of the code is encouraged through emphasis on a graphical interface.
