Abstract

A bicycle refers to a non-motorized two or three wheeler which is used on the public highway. Bicycles fitted with an electric motor or combustion engine come under the category of ‘moped’. The cyclist is unprotected. In a collision with another vehicle the cyclist is more likely to be killed or injured in an accident than those in faster and heavier vehicles. A cyclist is slightly less able to take avoidance measures than a pedestrian (e.g. stopping, changing direction) but is more manoeuvrable than other faster and heavier vehicles. (Author/publisher)
