Abstract

This paper gives an overview of the various factors which give inertia to the possibilities for rapid change in the transport sector. Some of the factors of inertia identified in this paper which are likely to affect future change and development in the road transport sector are: Population development, geographical restrictions, car ownership, travel time, travel cost, traffic safety, energy and technical changes.
