Abstract

An in-depth investigation was made on case histories to reconcile the findings with earlier papers. It became evident that the effectiveness of the absorbing column appeard to be minimal under a certain range of accident conditions, while under other conditions its performance was optimal. An attempt is made to determine if the performance of the energy absorbing device column could be predicted in terms of a number of specific accident variables.
