Abstract

In this study 888 injury-producing bicycle-motor vehicle collisions were examined. Based on the movements of the vehicles involved, the cyclist and/or bicycle was probably responsible for the initiation of more than three-fourth of the collisions. The age of the bicyclist was strongly related to probable responsibility for the collision. Collisions involving cyclists in various age group differed considerably in where, when, and how they occurred.
