The effects on the accident risk of a period with a preliminary driving licence, of a dark driving course and a slippery surface driving course in the basic training (phase 1) and of a dark driving and slippery surface driving course in phase 2 of the training have been measured. Neither the period with a preliminary licence nor the course in phase 1 had any effect on the accident risk. The dark driving course in phase 2 reduced and the slippery surface driving course in phase 2 increased the accident risk for a couple of years following the courses. These effects appeared only among male drivers. (A)
