Abstract

Eliminating highway queuing and idling reduces fuel consumption and concomitant greenhouse gas emissions. By expediting traffic flow, PrePass and E-ZPass reduce fuel consumption by more than 40 million gallons annually and offset the equivalent greenhouse gas emissions of 20,000 U.S. households. Highway safety is also positively impacted. PrePass is a sophisticated technology that enables more than 425,000 qualified commercial motor carriers to comply electronically with state-established weight, safety and credential requirements at highway speed in more than 280 locations. E-ZPass is the world's largest electronic toll collection system with more than 3,000 lanes and18 million transponders on-the-road.
