Abstract

In 1996, the Virginia Department of Transportation began operation of its electronic toll collection system, Fastoll, on three toll roads within the state. As part of the implementation process, a series of user surveys was developed to examine the perceptions of Fastoll users, toll facility managers, toll collectors and non-Fastoll users. This paper presents the results of the Fastoll Customer Survey distributed to over 10,000 customers. Questions regarding performance, ETC accounts and demographics were posed. The responses to each question and comparison between responses for related questions were examined. The results of the survey showed that respondents overwhelmingly approved the Fastoll system.
