Abstract

In 1983, traffic fatalities in the United States continued their 3-year decline, dropping from 43.945 in 1982 to42.584 in 1983 - a 3.1 percent drop. This is the lowest number of traffic fatalities since 1963. Since 1980, when 51.091 people died in traffic accidents, traffic fatalities have dropped dramatically by one sixth.
