Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) 1981 : an overview of U.S. traffic fatal accident and fatality data collected in fars for the year 1981

Abstract

In 1981 FES reported 43,979 fatal accidents, a decrease of 2.9% from the 1980 total of 45,284. In these accidents 19,268 persons were killed - a drop of 3.5% from 1980 when 51,091 persons were killed. The number of vehicles involved in these accidents also decreased from 1980, though at a slower rate - a 1.4% decline from 63,485 in 1980 to 62,666 in 1981.
