Abstract

In 1985 there were 43795 fatalities in 39168 traffic accidents. Both the number of fatalities and fatal accidents declined slightly compared with 1984 (1% and 1.1% respectively). In 1985 there were an estimated 22.360 alcohol-related traffic fatalities, a decrease of 11% compared with 1982. The reported use of Safety belts and child safety seats rose markedly in 1985.
