Abstract

Since 1972, traffic deaths on North Caroline highways have been declining. In spite of this downward trend, motor vehicle death rates for this state are higher than those for the nation. The purpose of this study is to examine fatal accidents to see how they differ from other accidents, and, on the basis of those differences, to recommend any appropriate countermeasures which could be implemented at a state level to reduce highway deaths in North Carolina.
