Abstract

223 fatal motorcycle accidents that involved military personnel, of whom 88% were drivers the remainder being passengers are reviewed. Injury patterns and the effect of blood alcohol content are discussed in detail. It is recommended that changes be considered in motorcycle design and also that additional rider protection be provided such as lightweight rigid clothing in an attempt to reduce the number of fatal injuries.
