Abstract

In 2013, there were 32,719 people killed in motor vehicle crashes in the United States. Of those people killed, 28 were reported as seated in wheelchairs (0.09% of the total fatalities) when struck by motor vehicles. These people were not occupants of motor vehicles involved in the crashes and thus are considered non-occupants. Only 13 States reported fatalities to non-occupants seated in wheelchairs in 2013. From 2007 to 2013, on average 28 people died every year (0.08% of the total fatalities) when seated in wheelchairs and struck during motor vehicle crashes. (Author/publisher)
