Abstract

This work is a numerical and analytical study of the feasibility of an on-board vehicle control of traffic strings. The control logic for the individual vehicular control is based entirely on the absolute velocity of the vehicle and its relative displacement and velocity to the preceding vehicle. All are easily measured quantities and the resulting control gives constant time-headway spacing.
