Abstract

This paper discusses efforts to coordinate transportation-related research, formulate plans for research and technology development, plan for new and emerging technologies, incorporate individual projects into FHWA's (Federal Highway Administration) Research and Technology program, and partner with Federal agencies, states, local governments, universities, and private industry in implementing and commercializing those innovations that hold promise for cost savings, increased performance, longer life cycles, and reduced maintenance efforts. The paper cites specific applications of new dual-use defense technologies for the highway infrastructure and highlight efforts of FHWA's role in the Technology Reinvestment Program. (A)
