Abstract

This paper provides a brief overview of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) product implementation and the FHWA's role in that activity, as well as a summary of highway research in the United States. The FHWA has created an Office of Technology Applications and will work with the National Transportation Board to monitor SHRP products and the conduct of continuing Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) activities. The FHWA's research and technology program is briefly outlined under four headings: 1) Safety; 2) Congestion: intelligent vehicle-highway systems (IVHS) program; 3) Infrastructure preservation and productivity; and 4) Technology transport.
