Abstract

The TeleFOT project constitutes the first Field Operational Tests (FOTs) for in-vehicle use of Nomadic Devices in Europe. Inside the project structure, the subproject 3 “Field Operational Tests” (SP3) objective is to design, develop and validate tests communities for Field Operational Tests including both large scale and detailed trials. They cover the Northern, Central and Southern Europe. In TeleFOT Subproject 3, Work-package WP3.2 is a specific activity dedicated to the development of the tools and technologies to enable the conduction of both TeleFOT Large-scale and Detailed FOTs. The objectives are “To setup, adjust and optimize the tools and technologies enabling first the conduction of the pilot tests leading to full-scale tests later on and for the evaluation of the different functions and services concerning their applicability, efficiency and impacts. These include: (i) Test vehicle concept with data logger and communication to M2M system for the tests with a great number of subjects (Large-scale tests) (ii) and the instrumented vehicles for detailed testing and (iii) the communication and data handling system (Machine-to-machine; M2M).” WP3.2 has 3 deliverables: 1. “D3.2.1 Test vehicle concepts” (this report, presented below), with focus on both Large and Detailed FOTs. 2. “D3.2.2 Test tools” is a confidential document reporting on the added systems installed in all test vehicles. It will present in details the test vehicle tools, focussing on the Detailed FOTs, and such issues as system input-output, capabilities, mounting issues and technical details. 3. “D3.2.3 Instrumented vehicles for the detailed tests” will provide the prototypes for the Detailed FOTs, together with accompanying reports on the implementation issues and results. It will describe such issues as the devices installation procedure in the vehicle, providing more views on the data and prepost- processing issues and samples of data logs to the TeleFOT data base. The present public document D3.2.1 presents the concepts for the TeleFOT test vehicles, which include: 1. Tests objectives: the overall TeleFOT goal and the strategy for testing is presented, from the Research Question to Hypothesis, Performance indicator and actual Measures at vehicles level (§ 2.1); 2. Functions tested in TeleFOT: all functions are described (§ 2.2) and a mapping of the functions tested in each test site is provided (§2.5); 3. Architecture for testing in TeleFOT: the overall data flows and system architecture are described for both Large and Detailed FOTs, with their modifications and customisations required by the latter (§ 2.3 and 2.4). 4. Technological contents of TeleFOT vehicles: the main tools included in both Large and Detailed FOTs are described, with a focus on their main capabilities and technical characteristics. These are cockpit activities and environment assessment tools, and alternatives for data logging (Chapter 3). 5. Expected results and added value of Detailed FOTs with respect to Large FOTs (§2.4.3). As a public document, and for its scope of addressing conceptual issues, it does not enter into technical details of the TeleFOT vehicles, which will be addressed in other project deliverables: D3.3.1 (M14, Public); D3.4.1 (M12, Public) and D3.2.3 (M18, Confidential).
