Abstract
Lelystad New Town design and first building stage were effectuated in the sixties. The town has separate road systems for motor car traffic and bicycles + pedestrians. A survey was carried out to trace the most negative aspects of the road system like the necessity to make detours because of the bridge ramps; the exposure to strong winds; the difficulty in finding one's way around and the steep gradients of the bridge ramps. The article gives some suggestions on how to cope with these disadvantages.
