Abstract

The Western part of The Netherlands faces major problems caused by increasing traffic congestion. To solve this problem, the Government tries to influence the modal-split by promoting cycling movements. In this specific area the demographic changes are in the need of more houses. Therefore the Government assigned new locations. Ypenburg, sited on the east-side of The Hague, is one of them. The objective of this report was to design a cycling network for the environment of Ypenburg. To achieve this, research was done. The research focuses on the projection of the expected flow of cycling intensities in the region. Different methods were thought out to understand the expected intensity of movements in the cycling area. As a result, a network is designed which is as attractive as possible for cycling traffic.
