Abstract
Draft recommendations are given for minimum requirements with regard to the lighting of cycle paths, which still allow cyclists and moped riders to ride safely and smoothly. The importance of the characteristics of the road surface and road markings is pointed out. Local lighting and lighting at junctions with motorized traffic are considered separately. In order to provide highway authorities with a better understanding of why and how to light cycle paths, a substantial part of this report is dedicated to considerations which form the basis of these draft recommendations. A number of examples of installations illustrate how the recommended values can be achieved with restricted electrical power.
