Abstract

This manuscript deals with the 1985 costs of traffic jams on the main road network in the Netherlands. All calculations were based on different value of time scenarios and showed driver and passenger costs to be the largest in comparison to other variables. The costs involved (jams only) are about Dfl. 300 million annually. Incorporating situations tending towards a jam, result in a conservative estimate of Dfl. 700 million.
