Abstract

According to the literature, car fires after a crash are rare events. Nevertheless, the consequences for vehicle occupants, should this occur, may be extremely serious. In order to evaluate prevalence, risk factors and severity of this phenomenon, retrospective and prospective studies are performed, comprising all the crashes involving fire to one or more vehicles. This scientific poster presentation evaluates data which show that while fire in car accidents is not common, the prevention of this dangerous impact outcome needs to be improved even in recently designed and manufactured cars.
