Abstract

The contactless ticketing system - combination of two technologies: smartcard (for safety of transactions) and radiofrequency transmission (for quickness of validation) - has begun to be tested in Paris and its region, since March 1997. There is a positive halfway appraisal and the final results of the first field test are scheduled for October 1997. Two other field trials - one with the « pre-debiting » scenario, the other with the « post-debiting » scenario - are scheduled to start at the beginning of next year. In parallel with field tests, some issues must be dealt with in order to prepare the generalization of this new contactless ticketing system.
