Abstract

The City of Fredericton has undertaken a wide range of initiatives to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to increase its energy efficiency. The City understands the important leadership role it can play in the local community - many of these initiatives lie at the interface between the municipal government and the citizens it serves. By demonstrating strong corporate leadership, the City of Fredericton has laid the groundwork necessary to encourage individual, corporate, and institutional citizens to reduce their own emissions. The City's pollution reduction and prevention initiatives come under the overarching FIRST TO KYOTO project and include a wide-variety of corporate and community initiatives to reduce GHGs and promote a healthy environment in which to live and work in Fredericton. The transportation-related corporate initiatives are described in this paper. This project was nominated for the TAC 2006 Sustainable Urban Transportation Award.
