Abstract

Until more effective techniques for diagnosis are available exploration of all patients with penetrating abdominal wounds and of all patients suspected of having abdominal visceral involvement after blunt trauma is probably the best means of decreasing that component of the mortality rate due to the abdominal injury itself.
