Abstract

An operational pavement system model, as described in NCHRP report No. 139 (See B 3368 S), has been formulated that organizes the influencing factors such as material characteristics, construction techniques, maintenance requirements, and economics within suitable framework for flexible pavement design and management. The methodology for improvements in pavement design within the systems concept is illustrated in this report by its application tot the characterization on an asphaltic concrete, a granular base material, and a cohesive subgrade soil.
