Abstract

How can road authorities improve the deteriorated traffic function of winter roadways? First and most important step is to understand winter traffic patterns quantitatively, and floating car data might stimulate it. An analysis of the pattern in Sapporo Metropolitan Area was carried out using floating car data (taxi GPS data) with the cooperation of a taxi company. With 115 taxis, it is possible to understand the pattern not only of arterials but also other local roadways with different days and times. This study outlines the system configuration and the ongoing activities to understand the patterns in the City of Sapporo. For the covering abstract see E134653.
