Abstract

An advanced telematic system to manage the traffic and a pilot study on a fleet of low emission vehicles using different fuel sources is in an advanced phase of implementation in Naples inside the so-called "Atena" project. Each vehicle of the low emission fleet (electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, methane, methane and petrol vehicles) is equipped with an individual Guidance System, and acts as a dynamic sensor providing on line the vehicle data (location, kinematics) and traffic data, including travel time. The on line stored data allow to reproduce the real traffic dynamic and calculate off line the emission and consumption and define new scenarios of traffic demand and technological vehicles choices for getting a sustainable city. Furthermore the floating car data are used on line by the telematic traffic control centre of the City Supervisor to improve the traffic observation and better define a control strategy.
