Abstract

A definition of basic traffic parameters is given and methods for their measurement are discussed. Various models of traffic flow, including both macroscopic continuum models and microscopic car-following models are discussed, as well as models that view traffic as a statistical ensemble and treat it by techniques of statistical mechanics. The mathematical techniques used are calculus and ordinary and partial differential equations.
